Alaska’s Week of Dreams Presented by Global Credit Union
Play ball! America250-Alaska invites Alaskans to commemorate the United States’ 250th birthday during an exciting Week of Dreams. Events are planned for Alaskans to get involved during this Semiquincentennial year, with a focus on celebrating Alaska’s historic place in The National Pastime around the anniversary of Independence Day:
• June 26, 10am, Glen Alps Trailhead: Guided hike up Flattop Mountain in Chugach State Park to raise America250 flag. Hosted by Alaska State Parks. More info: dnr.alaska.gov/parks/aspunits/chugach/glenalps.htm
• June 27, 10am-12pm, Anchorage Football Stadium: MLB PLAY BALL! youth clinic. Hosted by Major League Baseball and Anchorage Glacier Pilots. Up to 200 youth ages 6-14 from across the state will be introduced to the diamond sports by MLB coaches, former pros and current players, with lunch provided for the participants. • June 27, 1-3pm, Anchorage Football Stadium: MLB Pitch, Hit & Run event. Hosted by Major League Baseball and RBI Alaska. Alaskans aged 7-14 can participate in this free event to showcase their baseball or softball skills while earning a chance to compete at the national contest during the MLB World Series. • June 27, 6:30-7:30pm, Mulcahy Stadium in Anchorage: Week of Dreams Opening Ceremony. Featuring an Alaska Native welcoming dance, flag procession (led by elite athletes, Military volunteers and Alaskan youth) pitches by MLB Ambassadors Greg A. Harris and DJ Carrasco, Color Guard, Chugiak High School Choir, VIP remarks, history of Alaska baseball exhibit, and free copies of the storybook Alaska’s Fields of Dreamers: America’s Pastime in the Far North. The Alaska Baseball League teams throw out the opening pitch right after the Week of Dreams Opening Ceremony with America250 festivities. • June 28, 11am: Tour of new Mountain View Field House hosted by Jamar Hill of RBI Alaska. Meet & greet with MLB Ambassadors Greg A. Harris and DJ Carrasco, and see the new Mountain View Field House.
• June 28 1pm, Mt. View Lions Community Park in Anchorage: Community softball game vs. the Knock Down & Skin ‘Em Club – the oldest baseball team in Alaska dating to 1868. Hosted by the Aleut Community of St. Paul Island in partnership with the Mountain View Lions Club.
• June 28, 12pm – 4pm Loretta French Park, Chugiak: Chugiak-Eagle River Midseason Celebration. This free family event hosted by Eagle-River Chugiak Parks & Recreation features a Movies in the Park viewing of The Sandlot, concessions, games, face painting and other activities with community organizations.
• June 28, 4pm Loretta French Park, Chugiak: Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks vs. Peninsula Oilers: A family-friendly Alaska Baseball League matchup to celebrate the Week of Dreams. Free admission.
• June 24 – June 28 Mulcahy Stadium in Anchorage: American Legion Alaska 529 Midseason Classic. Some of Alaska’s top high school teams take on outside competition in this elite tournament.
• June 29, 6-9pm, Alaska Native Heritage Center in Anchorage: Week of Dreams Reception. Leading off with a demonstration of Alaska Native Baseball by Andrew Abyo (the Sugpiat artist and former resident of Pilot Point will show guests how to play the Southwest Alaska version of Indigenous Baseball called Miachee), Alaska Native Games exhibition, a live conversation between KNBA reporter Jill Fratis and Major League Baseball veteran DJ Carrasco of Native Nations, appearances by the Knock Down and Skin ‘Em Club players, and food/drinks. • June 30, Utqiagvik: An evening celebrating Alaska’s unique history with the game of baseball featuring a meet & greet with MLB veterans, presentation by State Historian Katie Ringmuth, the new Alaska’s Field of Dreams: Baseball in America’s Far North exhibit, and copies of the storybook Alaska’s Fields of Dreamers: America’s Pastime in the Far North. Timing and location TBD.
• July 2, 5-6pm, Morris Thompson Cultural & Visitor Center in Fairbanks: A celebration of Goldpanners history with former player Greg. A Harris. Hosted by Explore Fairbanks. Hear from the Major League Baseball pro and National Baseball Congress MVP who pitched the Goldpanners to a national title. Join us for this free event – attendees will receive a ticket to the 6:30pm Goldpanners game @ Growden Memorial Field.
• July 3, 10am-1pm, Growden Memorial Field in Fairbanks: MLB PLAY BALL! youth clinic. Hosted by Major League Baseball and Alaska Goldpanners. The Week of Dreams Classic celebrity golf tournament at Moose Run Golf Course has been postponed until later in 2026. Play a round with Alaska’s well-known athletes and local celebrities in this fundraiser to benefit the Alaska Sports Hall of Fame Healthy Futures program and area Little Leagues. Hosted by Knik Little League, Benton Bay Lions Club and Alaska Sports Hall of Fame.
